Time Machine: Starting Lineup Sealed Cases

Ok, I admit it. This update is only for the most hard core toy collector or Kenner fan. Remember when, at some point in your adult life, you realized that the things you had as a kid had a value? You realized that people actually collected the stuff you played with, and often, that the stuff was still in it’s original packaging. Not long after this discovery, there’s always the thought, “If I only had a time machine! How neat would it be to go back in time and get all of this stuff in its original packaging!”

The fun thing is, the reason stuff we collect still exists in its original packaging is because someone decided long ago to keep it that way when they brought it home from the store. Those are the folks we owe much of our hobby to. Sometimes, it’s just a forgotten gift, hidden long ago and recently discovered. Sometimes it’s more than that. This is one of those times.

Behold collector Joe C’s sealed cases of Starting Lineup action figures. Starting Lineup combined two distinct hobbies, sports card and toy collecting, with great results. It was one of Kenner’s hottest properties in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Wow, how much would Bills case go for? Who is in that one!?

    • Joe Curcio says:

      Derek,
This case of 1990 Bills contained Jim Kelley, Thurman Thomas, Bruce Smith and Andre Reed. I would put a value on this case of between $100 and $150.

Is there a site that has a list of case assortments?

    • Joe Curcio says:

      Chris,
Currently, the only way to view the case assortments for Starting Lineup our in the two guides that were printed. One was back in !996 for the year 1988 to 1996 and the other was printed independently back in the mid 2000s. Even with those guides, the case assortments for most 1988 and 1989 NFL were never discovered. Let me know if you would like the names of those guides.

      Joe
