Littlest Pet Shop Pony ‘N Pet Stable Playset

Toy collectors like to throw around words like rare and phrases like hard-to-find when referring to prized items in their collection, but what makes a toy truly rare in a world of mass produced plastic?  Maybe a hundred in the hands of collectors?  How about 10?  What about when you have the only known example of a production toy?  I think it’s fair to say that qualifies as rare!

Reader Sara M. wrote in to us about just such a toy.  The Littlest Pet Shop community considered the Pony ‘N Pet Stable playset to be an unproduced item until one popped up on eBay not long ago.  It had previously only been seen in the 1995 Kenner Toy Fair catalog and the 1995 Sears Wish Book.  The page from the Toy Fair catalog can be seen below:

The description reads:
60827

Sara is trying to determine if her playset is a prototype or if she has one that was once available at retail.   So far it’s the only one she is aware of.  If you have one of the playsets, or any additional information to provide the Littlest Pet Shop community, we would love to hear from you.

There is another set, or less for some reason this is the same lady, on Ebay right now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ULTRA-RARE-Kenner-Vintage-littlest-pet-shop-Pet-n-pony-stable-1995-/221215533004?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item33817927cc

They want a ridiculous amount of the money for it, but just thought people would be curious to see the posting. The description says that there is no sparkling pony included, so it was either lost or never made it into production and they forgot to change the packaging.

I am the new owner who recently put this up for sale on eBay. While it may seem like I Am asking a”ridiculous amount of money” for the stable please keep in mind that I actually paid $3,800 for it and am trying to break even including eBay and PayPal fees.

  3. Tom says:

So, does anyone know where this is now?

    • LPS-in-Germany says:

Yes, it went to another collector of the forum.
Sara sold it to Australia these days and now the newest owner is also located in Australia…

In the meantime there were a second one on ebay about more than one or two years ago. This actually seemed to be a prototype since it came without stickers or further accessoiries. Just the stable itself. I mean to remember it sold for 700$ – also to a forum member.

I wish there were more out there…this one is the only set I still miss =(
